- Background
This open meeting was requested by Commissioner Gleeson to discuss policy issues with fellow Commissioners and ERCOT related to the Permian Basin Reliability Plan, including the three 765-kV import paths required under that plan. The Commission has been explicit that this meeting will not address facts or circumstances specific to any individual transmission line proceeding, and no final decision on any individual line will be made here, as that can only happen once a proposal for decision is properly before the Commission and the parties have had the opportunity to present oral argument. The agenda also includes an ERCOT update on Batch 0 status and on ERCOT's plan for auditing data centers moving through its interconnection process, per the Governor's recent letter, along with the four other pending 765-kV dockets and SB 6 implementation. Public comment is open at the start of the meeting, three minutes per speaker, for any matter within the Commission's jurisdiction, except pending contested cases, which are off-limits due to the ex parte prohibition. This isn't the venue to speak to the specifics of any line, but it's a chance to be speak to overarching policy issues and be present and visible while the Commission discusses policy that directly shapes it. The Texas House State Affairs Committee, chaired by Rep. Ken King, has announced an interim hearing on two charges: data centers and 765-kV transmission lines. A strong turnout is important. View the notice here. - Public Comment
In-person testimony may be limited to 2 minutes per witness, and the committee may close registration before everyone signs up gets a chance to speak. Registration opens at 7:30 AM and closes at 10:00 AM the day of the hearing. To save time, create your House Witness Registration profile in advance. You'll still need to register on-site for this specific item, but having a profile ready speeds things up. When registering, have the topic ("765-kV Transmission Lines"), committee ("State Affairs"), and time/location (8:00 AM, August 19, JHR 140) ready. Can't attend in person?
